Description

The F-16C Fighting Falcon is a tactical fighter developed from the F-16A PLUS. Since the F-16 was first adopted by the US Air Force, it has been improved based on the Multi-Phase Improvement Program (MSIP). The radar fire control system of the F-16C has been upgraded from the APG-66 to the APG-68, improving target search and identification capabilities. In addition, the new AIM-120 (AMRAAM) missile has become capable of attacking multiple targets simultaneously, greatly improving air combat processing capabilities.

The engine bay has been improved so that it can be equipped with either the Pratt & Whitney F-100 or the General Electric F-110. Externally, the vertical tail root containing the ECM equipment has been extended forward, giving it a large bulge, which is a major feature.

The Block 50/52, deliveries of which began in October 1991, were equipped with an Improved Performance Engine (IPE) with increased maximum power output, which improved maneuverability, and from May 1993 onwards, Block 50/52s could be fitted with the AN/ASQ-213HTS (HARM Targeting System) pod on the right side of the intake, enabling them to carry out Operation Wild Weasel, a mission to detect and attack enemy air defense radars and other systems.
