How can I sign up?

To sign up to be a vendor on our Artist Alley Marketplace, you must be an established artist that is ready to sell. That means you have product in-hand that you created. We are currently onboarding our Alpha testers and taking applications for our Beta testing phase. You can sign up here

Does everyone get approved?

Unfortunately, not everyone will be approved. We are not just a marketplace, we are store heavily focused on Japanese imports and IP like anime and Gundam. The reality is that's what our customers come to us for, and that's how we will be able to find success together.

What is Alpha Test and Beta Test?

Since our online Artist Alley is a completely new concept, we want to make sure we've perfected our workflow and fix any bugs before we do our full scale launch. In our Alpha Testing phase, we will work with a small number of artists to get their feedback and find out what needs fixing. In our Beta Testing phase, we will invite a larger number of artists to do the same. Finally, when we are confident we are ready, we will launch and accept all approved artists.

We want to make this a good experience for everyone involved, so that's why we are doing this in phases. If you haven't been invited to participate in Alpha or Beta testing, please be patient with us!

Commission Fees

Anytime an Artist's product sells, we collect a 30% commission. The remaining 70% will go to the Artist. Our commission covers things like our payment gateway fees, warehouse space, shipping supplies, and the pandas that help you pack and ship the orders.

What's the catch? How do we make money?

We've heard this before. Sounds a little too good to be true huh? Well the truth is, the hard part that Artists have trouble with, like shipping, marketing, and ecommerce, that is the part that we're good at. We make money by taking a commission, which is pretty much a percentage based fee, for every sale. We are able to do this because we already have a successful online retail store, so we have the systems and logistics in place.

Why wouldn't I just make my own online store?

Well, you can! You can also do both! The benefit of listing with us is our exposure and reach. Panda Hobby is an established brand with an established customer base that is interested in Anime and from all over Canada, USA, and the world!

Taxes? TAXES?!

Any orders placed with us is subject to HST, GST, Canadian tax, USA tax, etc. You get the idea. We will collect and remit taxes on your behalf, so you do not need to remit sales taxes after you receive your payouts.

This means when your items sell, we charge the customer tax on the sale, we send the tax portion to the correct place, we take our fee, and we send you your payout. We only deal with the SALES TAXES that are included for orders placed through us. You will be able to see this breakdown in the Artist Alley app. We don't know your tax obligations outside of these sales, so please make sure you consult an accountant to make sure you're not going to get in trouble!

Do you have to charge taxes?

Yes. Some of you might not be required to remit taxes based on your sales volume, but since we are required to remit sales taxes, and the order is going through us, we have to.

Artist Alley App

Do I have to make my own products?

Yes. You will be responsible for creating your own products. That means uploading some nice product photos, giving your product a name and a description. The more effort you put in, the better your listing will look. The better your listing looks, the higher chance of you making a sale.

What do I put in the product description? Isn't the title straightforward enough?

The product description should also include things like measurements, materials, instructions, etc (2inch acrylic keychain, remove protective layer before use).

What is a restock?

Restock means the inventory that you will send to us or drop-off. When we receive it, count it, and verify it, we will approve it and your items will be for sale!

I can't drop-off, how do I send my stuff to sell?

First, create a new restock. Indicate how many of each item you are sending to us. After you package and ship it, add the tracking number into the app. If you need further assistance, contact us and we will help you.

How do I check my sales?

In the Artist Alley app, click the Sales tab in the right side bar, or the Sales button at the bottom of the screen on mobile. Here you can see what items sold, where your customers are coming from, how much the customer paid, the taxes, our cut, and your cut.

Payouts

When do I get paid and how?

Our current payout schedule (Alpha phase), is once a month. In the Artist Alley App, you will be able to check all your upcoming payouts and payout history.

We send payouts by Interac e-transfer.

What is a reserve?

A reserve is basically a hold on your funds. Yeah, that sounds icky. We have to hang on to a little bit of your sales just in case there's an issue with an order, probably around 10% (because we're in the Alpha phase, this may change). The reserve will be released in the next payout, and another reserve will be held based on that payout. Once you've been with us long enough, your reserve may be reduced, or removed entirely.
